Winnipeg Trails Association’s Strategic Planning

On April 18, 2015, WTA hosted a strategic planning session at the Norquay Community Centre. Over 35 people attended the session from local and rural trail groups, NGOs and interested citizens.  We’d like to thank all of the participants for sharing their opinions, concerns, advice and suggestions.

The impact of more than $60M in local street renewals on our trails. Comprehensive trail networks and liveable neighbourhoods are built on piece at a time. With more than $60 million dollars of road renewals underway, this is a moment to make sure that more people get safe trail access. Almost every project passes by a park, a school or a playground and connects to our trails in an important way. Family-friendly safety improvements and trail crossings must be an integral part of all road work. Once built, many will be in place for 20 years or more. WTA Coordinator Anders Swanson, with help from our April strategic planning mapping workshop participants and friends at Bike Winnipeg, is currently completing an analysis of every local street renewal scheduled for 2015. The goal is to ensure a new way of doing things at City Hall. We all want an  emphasis on healthy transportation. This one of the ways it happens.  Copies will be distributed publicly to all the City of Winnipeg councillors and invitations to complete walk-throughs once complete. Stay tuned!

the priorities and putting them into action. Stay up to date by following us on Facebook and Twitter.
