Sharee Hochman

Sharee holds an undergraduate degree in Rhetoric Communication & Sociology from The University of Winnipeg and has been supporting the non-profit sector in various communication and engagement roles. Her journey into urbanism began after a trip to Berlin, Germany, where she took advantage of active-transportation networks, green spaces, and public art – which was very different than the Winnipeg suburbs she grew up in. This sparked her interest to examine what Winnipeg could be and how the city’s build affects people’s experiences and lifestyles. Since, she has used her studies to break down these effects through published research through the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, the Urban Economy Forum, and INKspire. It also encouraged her to co-found Women in Urbanism Canada and apply for a Masters of Science in Urban Studies specializing in planning and mobility. She knows it takes convincing to reimagine our city differently, especially for city councillors, though she does it one bike ride, open street, and planter at a time.
