What: We are encouraging everyone to bring their cycles out and extras to share if they have them that people can check out or try.

Bikes, Trikes and Framerunners  to try:  Got one? Bring one? Don’t?? All good. People without cycles of their own are VERY welcome to join and try something out or borrow one for a bit! Winnipeg Trails and ASC have some cycles to share + some of the particpiants  will be bringing extras. Come check out tandem trikes, trikes, handcycles and more. First come first serve, we don’t guarantee there will be a cycle for everyone for the ride, but there will be time to test things out, swap, etc..

1:00pm – Campfire will be lit and while we finish unloading and setting up bikes. You can expect an informal show and shine, interspersed with wheelchair and cycle mechanics 101 for anyone interested (i.e.  tune ups/mechanics tips/discussion/”try it out”) as we prepare for a ride (or two or three) around an easy and fun loop through the forests of Fort Whyte.

2:00pm – Start time for a loop ride around the park

4:30 – End

Who: You! All kinds of people and all kinds of cycles. This event is designed for persons with disabilities and their friends or family as well as everyone who wants to cycle and celebrate all the ways we can ride together

Getting there:

Transportation to the site for you or your gear: We’re here to make it easier. A truck will be going around the day before making pickups. So if you would like transportation for your gear, please fill out this transportation link. If you have more than one cycle to show others that’s awesome! We will do our best to accommodate as many people’s “bikes” in that truck as possible.

If transport for yourself is a barrier, please let us know as we are willing to help with that too if needed.

Arriving by bike or foot: Wonderful trails lead to Fort Whyte from the south and north access points, but we note that by their nature, they could pose some independent navigation issues especially for persons with certain types of vision impairment. Feel free to reach out for any advice or questions about arriving independently. We’re hear to help.

Arriving by Transit Plus:  Fort Whyte is accessible by Winnipeg Transit and is a designated Transit Plus drop-off location.

Arriving by car: There is a large parking lot and accessible free parking on site. Be sure to come to the entrance of McCreary rather than the new entrance on McGillivary.

Vision impaired additional instructions:  Once arrived at the main reception building, turn left. Washrooms and a cafeteria will be on your right. Head straight through the building for 15m to the doors opposite leading outside. We will be stationed outside, approximately 50m to the left once you pass through the centre and go out the second set of doors. The main door for the Alloway centre is staffed with a receptionist. He/she/they will be happy to help provide further instructions for the location of the event or give guidance. Please note that thanks to Vision Impaired Resource Network, we will have tandems on hand and a few experienced pilots for anyone requesting riding assistance.

Washrooms: Washrooms have accessible stalls and panic buttons.
