Native Prairie Nature Discovery Tour on the Northeast Pioneers Greenway
For the past three years, volunteers in North Kildonan have been working to beautify one of the most popular trails in Manitoba! Through extensive work with local area schools and the City of Winnipeg Naturalists and Parks offices, the volunteers are protecting and restoring native plants along the greenway. And this greenway is no ordinary greenway – it was once the rail bed for the Marconi Rail Line! The Northeast Pioneers Greenway (NPG) is a rail-to-trail conversion of the former Marconi Spur rail line. This former CPR rail line, constructed in 1878, is now a popular active transportation corridor, which has been embraced by the community.
Join a guided 6 km hike to discover native prairie and restorative initiatives on one of Manitoba’s most popular trails!
Time: 1:00 pm–3:00 pm
Location: Meet at East Kildonan Centennial Park on Raleigh St. north of Kimberley Ave.
